By nine, children can follow detailed instructions and enjoy models that look impressive on a shelf. Many have settled on favourites, and a larger LEGO set can become a weekend project they are proud of.
Each set on this page has an age guide of 9 and over. There are Harry Potter sets with moving parts, two Speed Champions cars, Technic builds, a Minecraft chicken jockey set and character models from Disney's Lotso to a Santa sleigh. The prices range from about £20 to about £80. If a child already owns a few sets, a theme they have not tried makes a better gift than another one in the same range. They were checked on 13 October 2026 and can change.

Questions people ask
What are good gifts for a 9 year old?
Detailed LEGO sets, Technic and Speed Champions cars, and character models all suit nine-year-olds. A set with an age guide of 9 or over is usually a satisfying build.
What is the difference between LEGO Technic and Speed Champions?
Technic builds use gears and moving parts and tend to be more mechanical, while Speed Champions are small, detailed cars. Both are sold from age 9 in the sets here.
Is a 9 year old too young for large LEGO sets?
Not if the age guide says 9 or under. Larger sets take more time but are well suited to children who like to concentrate, especially with a parent nearby for the first few steps.
