GiftListHuddle

Privacy policy

This policy covers the GiftListHuddle website (giftlisthuddle.com) and the GiftListHuddle Chrome extension.

What the extension stores

The extension stores your sign-in token in your browser so you stay signed in.

What the extension sends

The extension sends the title and URL of a page to GiftListHuddle only when you choose to save that page onto a gift list. It does not read or transmit your browsing history or page contents otherwise.

Signing in and passkeys

You sign in with a one-time code we email you, or with a passkey if you choose to add one. A passkey is a pair of cryptographic keys: the private key stays on your device or in your password manager, and we keep only the public key, with your account. We never receive your fingerprint, face scan or device PIN. You can remove a passkey at any time from your account menu.

What we keep

We keep your email address, display name, and the gift lists and items you add, so the service can work. If you take part in a shared list as a guest, we keep the name you gave. We do not sell your data. Advertising and the analytics on our public gift guides are covered in their own sections below, and optional gift preferences after that.

Advertising

The app shows sponsored cards between your lists, and between the gifts on a list or in a huddle, and our public gift guides under giftlisthuddle.com/gifts show them between the gift ideas. Each one is labelled “Sponsored” and is supplied by Google. We do not show ads to guests who open a share link, and they never appear on the landing, support or privacy pages.

To show an ad, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address, details of your device and browser, and the address of the page you are on. In the app that address may include the id of the list or huddle you are looking at; on a gift guide it is the public address of that guide. We tell Google nothing else about your lists, and we never send it your name, your email address, the titles of your gifts, or your gender, date of birth or hobbies.

Google may use cookies or similar technologies to choose and measure ads. In the UK and the European Economic Area, ads are personalised only if you agree in the message Google shows you; until you do, the ads are not personalised. You can change your choice at any time with “Privacy and ad choices” at the bottom of the app or of a gift guide. Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Amazon links

GiftListHuddle is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. When you view someone else’s list or a shared list, links to amazon.co.uk gifts, and to cheaper options on amazon.co.uk, carry our Associates tracking id, and they are marked as sponsored links. If you buy after clicking one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Links on your own lists are never changed, and the gift guides use the same links.

Clicking a link takes you to Amazon, which has its own privacy notice. Our links tell Amazon our tracking id and the product, and we ask your browser not to send it the address of the list you came from. We do not tell Amazon who you are or anything else about your lists.

Gift guides and analytics

The public gift guides under giftlisthuddle.com/gifts can use Google Analytics, but only if you agree. The first time you visit, a banner asks. Until you choose “Allow analytics”, nothing from Google loads and no analytics cookies are set. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a “no” and do not ask.

If you agree, Google receives your IP address, details of your device and browser, the guides you read and the shop links you click, and sets cookies (named _ga and similar) to tell visits apart. We use this only to see which guides are useful and which shop links get clicked. We turn off Google’s advertising features in it: no ad personalisation and no Google signals. The signed-in app does not use Google Analytics.

You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie choices” at the bottom of any gift guide. Saying no deletes the analytics cookies. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Gift preferences (optional)

If you choose, you can tell us your gender, date of birth and hobbies, and tick a box to agree to us using them. We use them only to suggest gift ideas while you add gifts to your own lists. We do not share them with anyone (advertisers included), sell them, or use them for advertising. They are for people aged 18 or over; a younger date of birth is refused and nothing is saved. You can skip this, and you can change or remove these details at any time from the account menu (Your data); removing them withdraws your agreement. They are included when you download your data and are deleted with your account.

Your choices

You can remove the extension at any time, which deletes its locally stored token. You can download your data and delete your account yourself from the account menu (Your data). Deleting removes your lists, your place in huddles, your notices and your sign-in, and cannot be undone. For anything else, or if you have any question about this policy, email support@giftlisthuddle.com. Our support page has more help.
