Valentine's Day is the busiest day of the year for florists, so the main piece of advice is to order early. Same-day slots fill up, prices can change, and popular bouquets sell out. MyFlowers says it can deliver same day across the UK, but near 14 February it is worth booking a slot a few days ahead.

Red roses are the traditional gift, and a few are on this list, including a deep burgundy bouquet and an all-red rose bunch. But pink, white and peach are just as popular, and a bunch that fits her taste says more than one that follows the script.

The add-ons make the gift feel complete. A heart-shaped candle, a set of three scented votives, a rose and vanilla candle and a bundle of pralines with a heart touch can sit alongside the flowers, and heart-shaped balloons add the big, visible gesture. Prices shown are for the smallest size of each bouquet.

Questions people ask

When should I order Valentine's Day flowers?

A week ahead is sensible, and earlier is better for a particular date or a popular bouquet. Check the florist's delivery cut-off if you are ordering for the day itself.

Are red roses the only choice for Valentine's Day?

No. Pink, white and peach roses are very popular, and many people prefer a mixed bouquet. Choose by what she likes, not by tradition.

What should I add to a Valentine's bouquet?

A card is the most important thing. After that, a candle, chocolates or balloons make the gift feel more complete, and several of them are on this page.
